Armenian mass media review (November 12-18th)

The focus of Armenian media is on a report on Nagorno-Karabakh, which was approved by the PACE Committee. "Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian is holding talks with his European colleagues in order to neutralize the PACE report 'The increase in violence in Nagorno-Karabakh and other occupied territories of Azerbaijan', which was supported by the political commission,  the newspaper Haykakan Zhamanak daily reports, citing sources of diplomatic circles.

"Certainly, it is impossible to completely completely neutralize the report, which was submitted to the PACE January session. But attempts to soften some wordings will be made. However, it is not clear how the Foreign Ministry will manage to do this when the efforts of the Armenian delegation failed 10 days ago at the meeting of the PACE Political Committee. According to our information, the Armenian authorities are discussing the possibility of boycotting the PACE winter session if they don't manage to achieve any positive changes by January,'' the newspaper notes.

"The visit by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to Armenia caused serious concerns in the country, especially after an influential Russian newspaper reported that during the talks with the Armenian side it was proposed to return several liberated areas of Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan," Chorrord Ishkhanutyun reports. "It is likely that this issue was really discussed in Yerevan between Sergey Lavrov and Serge Sargsyan. And the Armenian President did not say ''no". So now they are slowly preparing Armenian society for such a concession. It is understandable why it is being kept secret.

Serzh Sargsyan needs to have some time in order to change the Constitution and make the parliament responsible for the unpopular deal with Azerbaijan,'' Chorrord Ishkhanutyun reports.

"During these days, the only main topic for the authorities was the referendum, Hraparak reports. "Yesterday, MP of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Karen Karapetyan, the deputy chief of the pre-election campaign team, gathered current and former representatives of the 'Prosperous Armenia Party' (PAP). We asked Martun Grigoryan about Karapetyan's instructions. "No instructions, he was interested in the situation,'' he said. As for orders, I am a non-party politician, so I can campaign on my own."
