White House: Assad’s visit to Moscow won’t help to resolve the Syrian conflict

According to White House spokesman Eric Schultz, the recent visit of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to Moscow won’t help to resolve the conflict in the Middle Eastern country.

"We are considering the reception of Assad, who used chemical weapons against his own people, as a contradiction of the Russian purpose – a political settlement,’’ RIA Novosti cites him.

Earlier, the head of the press service of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, said that Moscow and Damascus have the same opinion regarding the settlement of the Syrian conflict by political means. "I would like to remind that Vladimir Putin noted that the final decision in the context of a political settlement should be made by the people of Syria without external help,’’ he stressed.
