EU names blacklisted Russians

According to preliminary information, the EU blacklist of Russians includes FSB Chief Alexander Bortnikov, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, Vice Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu, LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky, Chairman of the Lower House Committee for International Affairs Alexey Pushkov, Gazeta.ru reports.Besides politicians, the list may include Alexander “Surgeon” Zaldostanov, leader of the Night Wolves biker group, Russia Today Director General Dmitry Kiselev, Chechen Leader Ramzan Kadyrov.

Abkhazia supports Russia in stabilizing the situation in Ukraine

 Abkhazia expressed support for Russia's efforts to stabilize the political situation in Ukraine and the conservation  of peace and tranquility in the country. This is stated in a message from the speaker of the Parliament of Abkhazia Valery Bganba to the chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko and the chairman of the State Duma Sergei Naryshkin.

The Federation Council of Russia has decided to form a commission consisting of senators from areas bordering with Ukraine to monitor the situation in the crisis-struck country, RIA Novosti reports.Senator Vladimir Dolgikh proposed formation of the commission. He urged his colleagues to evaluate the events in Ukraine and analyze efficiency of the Russian embassy, CIS secretariat and FSB.Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko approved the project and recommended senators of areas bordering with Ukraine to be part of the commission.

From now on Russians will be free to vote against all candidates during the federal parliamentary elections. The corresponding bill was approved today by the State Duma. 380 lawmakers voted for the bill, which was suggested by the Speaker of the Russian Parliament's upper chamber Valentina Matviyenko in October 2013.

State Duma Committee calls for return of the "against all" option

At a meeting today, the Russian State Duma Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State-Building recommended the lower house of parliament to pass a bill in the first reading offering to return the option "against all" on election ballots, on Friday, January 17. "The Committee generally supports the concept of the bill and recommends that the State Duma adopts it in the first reading," the Committee head Vladimir Pligin said after the vote of the committee's members at today's meeting.

Putin talks to speakers of both chambers of the Federal Council

Russian President Vladimir Putin is talking to the heads of both chambers of the Federation Council – the chairwoman of the Federation Council, Valentina Matviyenko, and the chairman of the State Duma, Sergei Naryshkin. The president is discussing the tense situation over Syria with the speakers, RIA Novosti reports. Matviyenko stated that the Federation Council would address US senators on the Syrian problem. According to her, the US Congress will take a balanced position and won’t support military intervention in Syria.
