Russian President Vladimir Putin has described the terrorist attack against a Russian Guard unit in Chechnya as a "gruesome event."

As he received French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen in the Kremlin , Putin said that Russia, just as many other countries, had repeatedly been a target of terrorist attacks.

"We’ve just seen a really gruesome event in Chechnya in the North Caucasus. Terrorists attacked one of our national guard units," TASS cited Putin as saying.

"We exist in a very complicated environment. We must develop the awareness of this danger at last and pool efforts in the struggle against terrorism," Putin told Le Pen.
