Chechnya starts constructing Orthodox church

The Chechen Cossack village of Naurskaya will finish construction of
the Church of the Nativity of Christ in late 2011, Ramzan Kadyrov
said, Interfax reports.


Construction began this week. The church will be a gift for the 75th
anniversary of the district, Kadyrov said.


The head of the Naurskiy District, Vladimir Kashlyunov, noted that the
new church will be built on the spot of the old Orthodox church
demolished in 1937. The beneficiary of the Naur church of “Joy of all
who Sorrow”, Father Amvrosiy, will hold services in the new church.
Some 60,000 people live in the Naurskiy District. Half of them are
Orthodox Christians.


Kadyrov said that the construction will be financed by the head of the
‘Russian Copper Company’, Igor Altushkin.
