Potentially substantial volumes of cargo transit through Azerbaijan can appear already this summer on the Western branch of the North-South route – Iran and Ukraine have reached an arrangement on grain deliveries through Georgia and Azerbaijan, abc.az reports.

Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan has stated that launch of test train Ukraine-Iran may occur in the summer of 2017.

"This is an extremely promising field of cooperation for both countries. Ukraine should develop new international transport corridors in order to become a reliable transit bridge between Europe, Asia and the East," Omelyan stated.

He also urged the Iranian side to consider the possibility of transporting Iranian oil to Ukraine.

Previously, Iran proposed Georgia to build a corridor between the Persian Gulf and the Black Sea. In early 2017 Fineko reported of Iran’s plans to use Georgian ports for product shipments to Europe and back.
