Vugar Gashimov chess memorial opens in Shamkir

The Vugar Gashimov Memorial opened today in Azerbaijan. It will be held at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Shamkir.

Among the participants are the 14th World Chess Champion Vladimir Kramnik, a recent contender for the title of world chess champion Russian grandmaster Sergey Karjakin, and two Azerbaijani chess players Shahriyar Mammadyarov and Teymur Radjabov.

The tournament will be held on April 21-30, TASS reports.

Azerbaijani grand master Shahriyar Mammadyarov become the winner of the tournament last year.

The memorial will be held in Shamkir for the forth time, it is dedicated to the memory of famous Azerbaijani chess player, who died at the age of 27 of a brain tumor in 2014.
