Police evacuate area outside Louvre museum in Paris over 'security alert'

French police have been called to the Louvre in Paris over a security threat after a suspicious bag was found, Evening Standard reports.

Video footage from the scene shows police cordoning off an area as people are cleared from outside the world-famous museum.

The courtyard in front of the landmark was where presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron tonight planned to celebrate a possible victory with his team.

According to his campaign spokeswoman, the Esplanade du Louvre was evacuated on Sunday "as a precaution".
