The volume of passengers in the airports of Krasnodar Territory
reached 4.7 million in 2010, exceeding the 2009 figure in the region
by 36% and the average indicator in Russia by 10%, according to the
manager of the region’s airports, Basel Aero, RIA Novosti reports.

Basel Aero is part of the Basic Element Group. It was founded in 2007
and manages airports in Krasnodar, Sochi, Yeysk, Gelendzhik and Anapa.
The company says that passenger volume on international lines in 2010
reached 605,000, compared with 374,000 in 2009.

The active growth in passenger numbers is a result of opening new
international flights to Spain, France, Czech Republic, Italy,
Germany, Greece, India and other countries.

Another reason is the invitation of the world’s fourth largest air
company, Turkish Airlines, in 2010.

An air terminal complex opened in Sochi and a new airport in
Gelendzhik in May 2010. The airport in Gelendzhik served 129,000
passengers and over a thousand flights.

Basel Aero plans to have the airport open flights to Yekaterinburg,
Samara, Krasnoyarsk and Tyumen. Passenger volume is expected to
increase by 70% and the number of flights to increase by 63%.
