The "United Russia" party intends to introduce a bill to the Duma
aimed at abolishing daylight saving time, RIA Novosti reports.
The idea of a legislative initiative has also been supported by the
chairman of the Duma Committee on Local Government, Vyacheslav
Timchenko. A member of the Duma Committee on Economic Policy and
Business, Andrew Chirkin already called for the abolition of daylight
saving time this spring.
Daylight saving time was introduced into many countries to save energy
on lighting. In Russia, the transition to daylight saving time takes
place on the last Sunday of March.
At the end of March 2010 Russian President Dmitry Medvedev invited
experts to investigate the feasibility of such a transition.
