Lewis Hamilton: I wanted badly to get a pole position at the Grand Prix
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe holder of the pole position at the tomorrow's Formula 1 Azerbaijan Gran Prix in Baku, Lewis Hamilton, (Mercedes) in a conversation with the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza positively evaluated the results of the qualification passed today, during which he managed to show the best result in Q3 (1: 40,593)
"This is already the 66th pole position in my career, and it's a wonderful thing. Surprisingly, I still want to get the pole position, and in Baku, I thought that I could get it, I wanted badly to get it today, "he confessed.
Lewis Hamilton stressed that this is the goal of any race. "The goal of our sport is to be the best, the first every day, to do so you need to grow daily and become better," said a member of the Mercedes team.
According to him, the team used the maximum of the results of the previous free practices in order to improve the results in the qualification. "I can not say that I was surprised by the time of the lap. We certainly thought that we are starting the race from the wrong position and we need to make many changes overnight. This morning everyone was excited - whether these rather complicated changes were made right or wrong - although we are completely confident in the team. But the guys did a wonderful job the last night and we improved in the right direction, " Lewis Hamilton said.
The qualification was not the easiest one. "At one point I lost my pole position, there was a lot of pressure to enter the last lap, there were only a few minutes to get ready - and all we could do is to perform well during the last lap. So I had to do everything in my power, and I managed to make the lap, which I'm very proud of, "the racer said.
"I am very grateful to all the guys who worked during the last night so that we could be ready today. I am very happy. The last lap in which I showed the best result is always a very special lap, " Lewis Hamilton pointed out.
The Mercedes team racer admitted that he expects the leadership of his team at the Grand Prix of Azerbaijan. "We are doing a wonderful job, today was an excellent speed, we competed well. I think Ferrari will have a big problem with the temperature of the tires, which is unusual for them (usually I suffer from this), and this fact needs to be taken into account. Of course, the race will be difficult, every second will be counted, and still Ferrari will compete for the leadership, but we are in a better position. I hope we can take an advantage of this tomorrow, " the winner of the pole position at the Azerbaijani Grand Prix concluded.
Recall that on June 25, Baku will host the 2017 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix and the second race of the FIA Formula 2.
F1 and F2 drivers compete on the 6-kilometer Baku City Circuit. The width of the widest part of the track is 13 meters, and the narrowest part is 7.6 meters between the turns 7 and 8.
The Start and Finish lanes are located at the Azadlig Square. Moreover, the Formula 1 Paddock, team garages and pit lanes are also located there.
