Turkey has suspended construction work on its section of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway (BTK) despite the promise given by the country's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to complete its construction until the end of the summer.

Informed sources say that the countries participating in the project decided to hold the next meeting of the Coordination Council on its implementation in July.

The purpose of the Council is to analyze the current state of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project and outline plans aimed at ensuring further progress in the construction of the railway, abc.az reported.

According to the Turkish sources, there are very influential people who are not interested in implementing the project. Over the last few years they succeed to disrupt the completion of the construction and operation of the rail project initiated by Azerbaijan.
