Azerbaijani President meets Tillerson in Istanbul

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in Istanbul.

They hailed the successful development of Azerbaijan-US bilateral relations in a variety of fields, including the political and energy spheres.

They also discussed the issues relating to the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the website of the Azerbaijani President says. President Ilham Aliyev reaffirmed Azerbaijan's stance on the settlement of the dispute and informed Rex Tillerson about Armenia's recent military provocation on the line of contact.

Azerbaijani president also spoke about the work carried out due to the implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor project.

Rex Tillerson, in turn, noted that the US will continue to support the implementation of the project. He highly assessed Azerbaijan’s activity in peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan, as well as Azerbaijan’s role as a transport and logistics corridor in these operations.

The sides also discussed political and economic reforms, which are being implemented in Azerbaijan, as well as issues related to the development of democracy.
