700 protestors arrested in Egypt
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaEgyptian police have arrested over 700 protesters, BBC News reports.
The Ministry of Interior Affairs had earlier forbidden mass protests.
Mass anti-government protests were seen in Cairo, Suez and other
cities right after the ban.
Two people, a police officer and a civilian, died in Cairo on January
26 after clashes between the protesters and police. The police used
tear gas and rubber bullets against the protesters' stones. The
protesters in Suez attacked a government building with petrol bombs.
The protesters want Hosni Mubarak, who has ruled the country for
almost 30 years, to resign and the start of social and political
reforms. The protests started on January 25, 2011.
The events in Egypt are comparable with the actions in Tunisia, where
protesters forced President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, who had been in
power for over 20 years, to resign. The former president of Tunisia
and his family members had to flee to Saudi Arabia. The police were
authorized to arrest the ex-president and his family, suspected of the
illegal purchase and transfer of funds to foreign countries.
