Lavrov: Pompeo's remarks on 'Russian meddling' in US elections beyond bounds of reason

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commented CIA director Mike Pompeo's statement that Moscow had meddled in the US elections for more than eight years.

"If it is asserted that we interfered in the US elections in 2008 and 2012, that means that President Barack Obama owed his victories to us," TASS cited the head of the Russian diplomatic mission as saying. "I will refrain from commenting on the issue, as I believe this goes beyond the bounds of reason," Lavrov said.

CIA Director Mike Pompeo said Thursday he is "confident" Russia meddled in the 2016 presidential election, and he contends that Moscow has been interfering in U.S. elections long before last year.
