Russia and the United States: how to avoid ‘politico-diplomatic jungles’

The actions of the US authorities regarding the diplomatic missions of Russia are of a deviant behavior, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said.

"You can treat each other's politics in any way, though you should follow not even the rules, but some decency. Here we have big problems, that's why I'm saying that we are dealing with some manifestations, in particular, of quite deviant behavior in terms of political sense, " RIA Novosti quotes him as saying.

Ryabkov wonders if Washington went too far in spreading the notion of its exclusivity in the relations with other states and in ‘’the basics of diplomatic communication" as a whole. "We have not faced before such far-reaching and in all respects provoking encroachments on the fundamental norms of the international law. In previous years, someone was called the state sponsor of terrorism. I tend to call what is happening state hooliganism," he stressed.

Commenting on the possible response of the Russian side, the deputy minister said that Moscow has many opportunities to give an adequate response to Washington, but the key issue here is not to behave as low as the US leadership, otherwise the both sides will soon be lost in ”the political and diplomatic jungles”.

Recall that on August 31 the US authorities demanded the termination of diplomatic activities in the building of the Consulate General in San Francisco, as well as in the buildings of the trade mission in Washington and the branch of the trade mission in New York. This requirement was met by September 2. Moscow described such steps by Washington as a ‘raider seizure’ of the Russian diplomatic estate. The buildings were searched, and the representatives of the US special services and law enforcement agencies have not left the building of the Consulate General in San Francisco until now.
