The Azerbaijani parliament has approved amendments to the Electoral Code today, Trend reports.

Ali Guseynov, head of the parliamentary committee for legal policy and state construction, said that the amendments will be examined for their compatibility with the Constitution.

The previous amendments were introduced in June 2010. They cancelled funds for candidates from the state budget and the terms for announcing election results were reduced from 75 to 60 days. The code has seen amendments introduced 10 times since 2003.

The latest amendments introduced to the Constitution via a referendum, according to articles 84.1 and 101.5 of the Constitution, state that if military operations do not allow Azerbaijan to hold parliamentary and presidential elections, the terms of office of the parliament and the president last until the end of the military operations.
