Former Kazakh Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov, convicted on corruption charges in December 2015, has been released from prison this morning.

Akhmetov served almost 2 years in prison out of 10 years he was handed in December 2010 for power abuse and embezzlement of entrusted property, AKIpress recalls.

In early 2017, Akhmetov's unserved sentence was reduced by 1.7 years as he was granted amnesty on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the country's independence.
