Nazarbayev has power to call early elections

The parliament of Kazakhstan adopted a law on "Amendment of the Constitution of Kazakhstan", investing the current president of the state with the power to call early presidential elections, RIA Novosti reports.

The deputy head of the presidential administration, Talgat Danakov, stated that the bill presupposes investing the president with the authority to call early presidential elections at a time determined by the Constitution.

Nazarbayev stated the intention tp hold early presidential elections on 31 January. Nazarbayev has been in office for over 20 years.
