Georgian president discusses rising food prices

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has had a meeting with
ministers, where he talked on the rising food prices and global
economic tendencies, News Georgia reports.


The president ordered the ministers of agriculture and regional
development and infrastructure to activate work in purchasing
high-yield corn seeds in villages, continue infrastructure projects.


Saakashvili said that Georgia may become a wheat exporter this year,
for the first time, using high-yield wheat cultures from the USA.


The Finances Minister Kakha Baindurashvili said that the budget has
over $556 million for infrastructure projects. He noted that
agriculture projects will receive $22 million. The inflation rate in
Georgia reached 11.2%.
