Iran hopes to hold contacts with Russian authorities to discuss statement of the US President Donald Trump about the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. This statement was made by chairman of the Mejlis of Iran, Ali Larijani, who heads Iran's delegation at the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly.

According to him, Russian-Iranian dialogue can be very useful. At the same time, he expressed hope that this issue will be discussed during the next bilateral visits. In addition, Ali Larijani said that cooperation between Russia and Iran is extremely important for the Syrian settlement and improvement of situation in the Middle East.

"Cooperation between Iran and Russia allowed to seriously damage terrorists, the Astana process continues, all of this can help to reach a political settlement in Syria," he noted.

"This shows that cooperation between Iran and Russia can play a very effective and important role and will show good results in the region and on the international arena," Larijani added.

According to him, Moscow and Tehran have very close relations and hold consultations on many important issues.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarifsaid said that the choice of pulling out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) will remain a viable option for Iran if Tehran feels that the other side has fallen short of its promises to remove the sanctions under the nuclear deal.

“Whenever Iran feels that the other side’s measures to lift the sanctions are not sufficient, it can make its own choice, and pulling out of the JCPOA is one of those options,” Tasnim news agency quoted him as saying.

He further noted that US President Donald Trump’s Friday speech against Iran and the JCPOA made Washington more isolated.
