De Mistura: we need transition to more stable settlement in Syria

UN special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura held talks in Moscow with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu yesterday ahead of a fresh round of talks aimed at ending Syria's six-year war.

They discussed the prospects of transition from the stage of creation of zones of de-escalation in Syria "to a more stable political settlement in Syria," the defence ministry said in a statement.

The UN envoy said last month he hopes to convene a new round of Syria talks in Geneva in the coming weeks, the AFP reported.
