EU aims at creating integrated internal energy market

an integrated EU internal energy market today at a summit in Brussels,
RIA Novosti reports.
The summit of EU leaders taking place in Brussels is devoted to
European energy issues. According to the outcome document of the
summit, the creation of a common EU energy market should be completed
by 2014 and ensure the "free flow of gas and electricity.”
In this regard the heads of the EU countries instructed the EU Council
and European Parliament to approve the legislative proposals of the
European Commission to ensure the integrity and transparency of energy
markets within EU countries in order to be able to quickly and fully
implement the directives in the field of energy.
The European Commission has requested the submission of proposals for
funding a project to create a common EU energy market by June 2011.
The European Commission has previously stated that an adequate
infrastructure requires investments amounting to one billion euro.
Participants at the EU summit expressed their desire for a coordinated
policy towards third countries and energy community partners.
