Tourist boom in Georgia

The number of international travellers visiting Georgia is increasing year-on-year, show the latest data from the Georgian National Tourism Administration, which said Georgia hosted 444,241 international visitors in January 2018.

This was a 14.8% increase compared to the same month of 2017. As for tourists alone, last month Georgia hosted 189,476 tourists (in increase of 23% compared to January 2017).

The countries from where the largest number of visitors came to Georgia in January 2018 were: Azerbaijan (0.8% increase), Turkey (20.1% increase), Armenia (20.9% increase), Russia (14.6% increase), Iran (92.4% increase).

From European Union countries: The Czech Republic (59% increase), Latvia – 46% increase), United Kingdom (31% increase), The Netherlands (28% increase), Lithuania (16% increase).

The countries with the most significant increase were: Kuwait – 131 percent increase, Saudi Arabia (127% increase), Iran (92% increase), Israel (77% increase), India (48% increase), Turkey (20% increase).

Head of the Georgian National Toruism Administration Giorgi Chogovadze shared his interpretation for this year’s tourism data taking into account the promising start of the year 2018.

"For the first time in the history of our country the number of international travellers visiting Georgia will exceed over 8 million and the revenues from international tourism will reach $3 billion," Agenda.ge cited Chogovadze as saying.
