Mass pilgrimage in Chechnya on eve of Prophet Muhammad’s birthday

The inhabitants of the republic of Chechnya are making a mass
pilgrimage to the holy places on the eve of the birthday of the
Prophet Muhammad, RIA Novosti reports.

The Chechen authorities will provide pilgrims with free transport on
Tuesday, as well as organize free meals at the main mosque in Grozny
for the participants of the celebratory events.

Chechnya began to celebrate the religious holiday widely a few years
ago, on the initiative of President Ramzan Kadyrov. From the beginning
of the month of Rabbi-ul Aval the Koran is read in all the mosques
throughout the day.

This year the birthday of Prophet Mohammed falls on February 15.
