One killed and over 100 arrested in Iran

One person died, dozens were injured and over 100 people were arrested
during mass disorders in Iran, Trend cites Al Jazeera as reporting on
Tuesday.


Clashes between opposition and police occurred at Tehran University on
Monday. The Iranian police were reported to have used tear gas and
paint guns.


US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton supports the opposition, which
supports the Egyptian protesters. She said that Iranians deserve the
same rights as Egyptians. Clinton urged the Iranian authorities to
take into account the voice of the opposition and take a more
democratic path. The US official pointed out the hypocrisy of the
Iranian authorities, saying that Iran supports the protests in Egypt
but suppresses its own opposition.


UK Foreign Secretary William Hague urged Iran to respect the rights of
freedom of assembly and expression of views.

Iran saw mass disorders on Monday. The national security forces used
tear gas against protesters in Azadi and Ingilab Squares in Tehran.
Kaleme.com said that dozens of opposition members were arrested.
RaheSabz.net says that one was injured on Azerbaijan Avenue. Protests
spread to Kermanshah, Rashd and Khomeynishahr.
