Stoltenberg: NATO ready for meaningful dialogue with Russia

NATO seeks meaningful dialogue with Russia, the Alliance's Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said, presenting his annual report today.

He noted that NATO would continue to seek meaningful dialogue with Russia which, while “difficult”, was “vital to increase transparency and to reduce risk”.

"We do not want a new Cold War, and we do not want to be dragged into an arms race. An arms race has no winners. It is expensive, it is risky, it is in nobody's interest,” Stoltenberg said.

At the same time he added that NATO’s approach to Russia “remains firm, defensive and proportionate”.
