Juris Maklakovs: Azerbaijan holds gymnastics tournaments at world level
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe level of organization of competitions in gymnastics and its technical equipment in Baku set a high standard for the whole world, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Azerbaijan Juris Maklakovs, who came to the European Championships in Trampoline, Tumbling and Double Mini-Trampoline, told the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza.
"I am very pleased and glad to see the Latvian team at today's European Championships. This is the first time I watch gymnastic exercises, I've seen the Baku competitions only on TV, and it's a kind of new experience for me. It was pleasure to meet with the Latvian team and learn that they have very good results in general," he said in the first place.
"I hope they will show good results at the 26th European Championships taking place in Baku. It seems to me that the event is well-organized, there are a lot of spectators here. I wish all the participants success, and may the best win. Especially since all conditions were created here for the gymnasts - the infrastructure is great on the arena, it seems to me that a lot of countries would envy, including Latvia," Juris Maklakovs stressed.
In general, the ambassador said that Latvia and Azerbaijan have established constructive cooperation. "Last year we had very active cooperation in the political sphere, and now we are establishing economic contacts. We have always had good sports connections during these years of independence," he concluded.
The 26th European Championships in Trampoline, Tumbling and Double Mini-Trampoline has opened in Baku today. More than 400 gymnasts from 25 countries are expected to join the Championships. In the first two days of the competitions, qualifications for all types of events both among junior and senior gymnasts as well as finals among teams will be held, on the last day, medalists will be known in all four types of the gymnastics events.
