German Vice Chancellor visiting Iran
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaGerman Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle is now visiting Iran. He arrived in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Saturday at nine o'clock local time, Trend cites Fars news agency.
Immediately on his arrival at the airport he went to a meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi.
The visit aims to contribute to the development of bilateral relations between the two countries and discussion of regional and international issues.
Guido Westerwelle's visit to Iran seems peculiar, as he is the first openly gay German top official and has recently registered a domestic partnership with his partner, while the Islamic Republic of Iran is known for serious violations of LGBT rights.
