Kazakhstan celebrates National Day of Unity of People

On October 18, 1995, President Nursultan Nazarbayev has signed the order declaring May 1 as the Unity Day of People of Kazakhstan and abolished the Labor Day marked since the Soviet Union time.
Addressing the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan on April 28, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev underlined the unity of people was, is and will remain the main condition for development of the country.
"Dear compatriots! I sincerely congratulate you on May 1 - the Day of Unity of the People of Kazakhstan! This truly national celebration is a vivid symbol of our patriotism, love and devotion to our native land. Thanks to unity and agreement, we have achieved great success in building an independent state, having earned a high prestige and recognition in the world. Awareness of the importance of unity and harmony is the main factor in the harmonious and sustainable development of our country," said the president.
Nazarbayev also added that the true wealth and well-being of Kazakhstan depends on unity, friendship and mutual respect.
"These key values determine the worldview of our society and serve as a clear guide to its further consolidation and rallying. I am confident that the ongoing major renewal of all spheres of the life of the state will contribute to strengthening our unity and stability on the path of new achievements and victories. I wish everyone prosperity and new successes," Nazarbayev said.
The National Day of Unity of People of Kazakhstan is a public holiday in the repubic. Concerts, massive celebrations, children’s festivals, sport contests will be held across the country. Exhibitions, performances devoted to the holiday of unity and friendship will be held in libraries, museums, theaters and other cultural spots of the country.
