Abkhaz president bans road-checks of Russian cars

Abkhazian President Sergei Bagapsh has ordered the head of the Minister for Internal Affairs to ban road checks of cars with Russian state numbers, reports RIA Novosti.

The president explained that Russia is investing in the development of the country and it is of vital importance to attract tourists from Russia as well.

"Russian tourists come to Abkhazia to rest and this is a good income for the country's budget. The police should look after the security of tourists, not issue fines for the slightest reason. We should stop this practice," - said the president.

Bagapsh added that the situation differs, of course, if it relates to a crime or suspect.
