Georgia presents education system action plan
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe action plan presented by the Georgian Minister of Education and Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili introduces several changes at every stage of the educational system aiming to increase the quality of education in Georgia.
In terms of general education changes include supporting teachers and their professional development, better quality books for students and development of their creative thinking, as well as introducing modern technologies in schools.
"We clearly understand that Georgia’s success, stability and democratic development can only be built on knowledge and education," Kvirikashvili said while delivering a keynote address at the presentation of the action plan attended by government representatives, students and teachers.
"We have set the goal to make the education system more oriented on market demand and major locomotive for economic development. Some challenges in terms of access to education still exist but the major challenge is to ensure the quality of education at every level of the system," Agenda.ge cited Kvirikashvili as saying.
He also underlined the importance of vocational education which is one of the major priorities for the government under the educational reform.
The draft law on vocational education is already prepared by the ministry and it aims to implement the best European practice in this direction.
As for the action plan itself, there are several directions in the document aiming to support the vocational education. One of them considers creation of the vocational colleges at the universities. These colleges will be oriented on employment of their students, as well as introducing exchange programs with other European colleges.
