Chair of Georgian Supreme Court steps down
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaFirst female chairperson of the Georgian Supreme Court Nino Gvenetadze has announced her resignation today, citing health reasons.
Gvenetadze, 54, who was selected for the role by President Giorgi Margvelashvili and approved by parliament in 2015, said in a special statement that her treatment requires a several-month stay abroad, Agenda.ge reported.
She said that the achievements made under her leadership include: random, electronic distribution of cases between judges; opening of a special data centre at Tbilisi City Court which is tasked with electronically distributing cases; the establishment of a rule which obliges courts to release their verdicts online; the adoption of a Juvenile Code, for the first time in the history of Georgia; closer cooperation with the parliament, the Ministry of Justice and NGOs , which will lead to new legislative initiatives, and he implementation of more than 40 infrastructure projects.
