Part of the Lekhziri Glacier has collapsed in Georgia's Svaneti today.

Specialists of the National Environmental Agency have been mobilised to study the situation and find the reason behind the incident.

"Most likely this was caused by glaciological processes, intense melting of the glacier during summer, which often happens naturally. Currently the entry to the valley is closed until we receive certain information from the specialists," Agenda.ge cited the agency as saying.

Lekhziri Glacier is a valley glacier with a length of more than 11 kilometers located on the southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range in Svaneti.
