Turkish Security Council has not given up on Armenia rapprochement

The Turkish Security Council has discussed the issue of the 1915
killing of ethnic Armenians and the prospects of bilateral protocols
with Armenia.


According to News.am, the Security Council session lasted over six
hours and saw the participation of President Abdullah Gul, Premier
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Chief of General Staff Ilker Basbug and other
officials.


A statement after the meeting said that studies of the history of the
Armenian and Turkish peoples should be scientifically based, without
prejudice. Deputy Prime Minister Cimel Cicek said that
Armenian-Turkish protocols remain on the agenda.


The Council also discussed possible anti-terrorism cooperation between
Turkey, Iraq and the USA in Kurdistan, as well as issues on securing
peace and stability in South Caucasus and bills on 1915 passed in
various countries and further work in this direction.
