US asked Georgia not to interfere with Russia's WTO accession
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaUS Vice President Joe Biden at a meeting with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin stated that Washington was discussing with Tbilisi the accession of Russia to the WTO, said the deputy chief of staff to Prime Minister Yuri Ushakov, ITAR-TASS reports.
American side hopes that the negotiations between Russia and Georgia, which are now taking place in Bern, Switzerland, will bring positive results.
Russia is trying to become a WTO member since 1993. In late April 2008, Georgia came out of talks on Russia joining the WTO, protesting against the orders of the Russian president to lift economic sanctions against Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The diplomatic relations btween Russia and Georgia were severed in 2008 after the war and Moscow's recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
