Armed man shot by police outside Ukrainian consulate in Istanbul

Turkish police shot and injured a man armed with a handgun and a grenade on Tuesday after he attempted to break into the Ukrainian consulate in Istanbul, the Trend news agency said, citing Turkish media.

The man was taken to hospital. Media reports said a remotely controlled explosive device was found in a bag he had with him.

The incident happened at around 10:00 a.m. local time.

 

The mayor of Istanbul, Muammer Guler, said that there was no political element to the attack. The investigation is continuing.
