Another explosion at Japanese nuclear power plant

The third reactor at Japan's Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant underwent an explosion caused by hydrogen. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said that the reactor was not damaged and radiation levels had not increased, remaining at 1 microsievert per hour, RIA Novosti reports.

The service section of the power plant is experiencing 50 microsieverts per hour, the territory of the plant – 20 microsievert per hour, 5 km from the station – 1 microsievert per hour.

Six people were injured in the blast.

1000 microsieverts are equal to 1 millisievert per hour. A radiation dose causing vomiting needs 1000 millisieverts per hour or 1 million microsieverts.

Edano said that measures are being taken to bring 600 people to safety in the 20 km zone.

A similar blast occured at the power plant on Saturday. The reactor was not damaged. However, up to 1015 microsieverts per hour were registered.
