Reactor at Armenian nuclear power plant is secured in case of earthquake

The reactor and other important equipment of the Armenian nuclear power plant are protected in the event of a possible earthquake, told the news agency News-Armenia Director of the Armenian Research Institute for Nuclear Power Plant, Ph.D. Vahram Petrosyan, RIA Novosti reports.

Questions about the safety of nuclear power plants have been raised in many countries following the tragic catastrophe in Japan.

In an interview to one of Georgian electronic media, the dean of the Faculty of Energy and Telecommunications of the Technical University of Georgia, Gui Arabidze said that in the event of a major earthquake in the Caucasus the nuclear reactor in Armenia will become dangerous to the country and its neighbors.

The head of the Armenian nuclear power plant, Petrosyan that the administration of the plant is conducting numerous activities to improve the safety of the power plant.
