The Abkhaz Public Chamber had a session at Galsky District on March 15. Passports, administration of the border, housing and utilities was discussed. Schools in Galsky District lack teachers of Abkhaz and Russian languages. Only a tenth of the locals have Abkhaz passports. Functionaries say people lack documents.

Sukhumi has held a chess competition “Amshen 2011”, organized by Armenian community in Abkhazia. 60 players took part. Ochamchiry Otar Khurkhumal won the first place. Sabina Bartsyts from Gagry was the best female player. Speaker of the Abkhaz parliament Sergey Matosyan presented the awards. Amshen has been held for the third time.

Abkhazia adopted the Honorary Employee of the High School of Ossetia and Honorary Science Figure ranks. The Honorary Employee of the High School of Ossetia is awarded to teachers who worked for 20 or more years. The Honorary Science Figure is awarded for contribution to science.

Abkhazia adopted a law on gambling on March 16. Organizing gambling will be fined with 500,000 rubles or 1-2 years of prison with confiscation of gambling equipment.

Abkhaz website Apsilaa, owned by Beslan Butba has been closed down. His Party for Economic Development switched from opposition to centrism.
