Metsamor power plant is a threat to Turkey

Outdated Metsamor is a threat of radioactive contamination to Turkey, Trend quotes the Minister of Environment and Forests of Turkey Veysel Eroglu referring to the site channel CNN Turk.

Metsamor, which began its work in 1976, is located in a seismically active area approximately 30 kilometers westward of Yerevan. After the devastating earthquake in 1988, Armenian authorities  decided to close the Metsamor plant. However, economic constraints  forced the country's leadership to restart the plant in 1993.

"Armenia has an outdated nuclear plant 26 kilometers from the border with Turkey so the risk of radioactive contamination is still present. During the construction of nuclear power it is important to choose a suitable place for this, the use of advanced technologies, taking into account the risk of earthquakes, tsunamis and other natural disasters ", said Eroğlu.
