Lavrov: ISIS backbone is broken

The fight against the ISIS terror group (outlawed in Russia) is not over yet, there is a need to prevent terrorist units from coming together, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

"All who are dealing with the issue admit that it is former officers of Saddam Hussein’s army, dismissed from their positions, that are behind all ISIS operations that prove to be successful. It does not mean that the fight against the ISIS is over," the minister said at Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University.

"As they say, the backbone is broken but some units still remain active and there is a need to prevent them from coming together and eliminate them," TASS cited Lavrov as saying.
