Azerbaijan is quite the power in organizing sports competitions - Mexican Ambassador to Azerbaijan
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaAzerbaijan is doing an excellent job in organizing sports competitions, Mexican Ambassador to Azerbaijan Rodrigo Labardini said today in an interview with Vestnik Kavkaza at the sidelines of The World Cup in Trampoline and Tumbling.
"This is part of Azerbaijanis like to do to get more attention and promote it's image abroad. It's clear that Azerbaijan is quite the power in organizing games. We saw the European Games, we saw the Islamic Games as well, and the World Cup of Gymnastics," he said.
"We have a team here, we have six athletes, trying to get the gold. Some of them are trying to qualify for the Olympics in 2020. They're all great individuals," he noted.
Rodrigo Labardini noted that relations between Azerbaijan and Mexico reached a new level after the opening of the Mexican Embassy in Baku. “Average trade volume between Mexico and Azerbaijan between 1992 and 2014 was only $1.2 million, and in 2017 it reached $20 million, and to Azerbaijan’s data, it has now reached $25 million. I think it’s very important to develop relations in all areas of cooperation, not only in politics, trade and culture, but also in sports. This is a very important part of the relationship," he noted.
The World Cup in Trampoline and Tumbling is set to run from February 16 to 17 in Baku. Some 200 gymnasts from 30 countries will take part in the championship.
