The UN Security Council passed a resolution on Thursday, providing for a military operation against Gaddafi's forces to protect the Libyan rebels.

The operation started on Saturday, involving the USA, UK, France, Italy and Canada. Belgium and Spain will join them soon. The coalition forces used over 120 cruise missiles against Libyan air defenses. Libyan media said that over 60 people died in the attacks. Western media do not confirm the information.
