Fish skin could become a brand of the republic after the Sochi Olympics

The Kabardino-Balkar State University recently held an exhibition of innovative projects of young scientists of the North Caucasus Federal District. 78 projects in the fields of information, nanotechnology, medicine, agriculture, construction and industry were presented at the exhibition. The specialists recognized the fish skin designs by the Ingush businessman Ahmed Shadiev as one of the most innovative products.

Ahmed Shadiev says that fish skin is much stronger and more environmentally friendly than animal skins, and its products are practical and long-lasting. Ahmed Shadiev had already invented the technology for the production of fish leather in 1991, but back then production was not profitable. Only in 2001-2002 did Shadiev decide to resume the business. Now Shadiev has clients in France and Israel.

There is no equivalent to the sturgeon skin industry elsewhere in the world. Shadiev opened a small shop in Nazran, which processes up to 3 thousand fish skins per month.

There are more than enough raw materials for the production of fish skin in Russia. Fish skins, especially marine ones, have an exotic appearance, thanks to their rich colors and unique patterns, and the designers see them as a promising material for the manufacture of fashionable and exquisite shoes and accessories.
