Dariga Nazarbayeva elected Kazakh senate chairperson
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaFormer head of the Kazakh Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Defense and Security Dariga Nazarbaeyva has been elected Senate Chair on Wednesday, according to the parliament’s press center.
According to the country’s laws, the president nominates one of the senate members for chair, who is elected by senators through a secret ballot, TASS reported.
Dariga Nazarbayeva is the first Kazakh President's daughter. In 2014, Nazarbayeva was elected as Vice Chairman of the Mazhilis. In 2015, she was named Deputy Prime Minister. A year later, she was designated as head of the Senate's International Affairs, Defense, and Security Committee.
The previous Senate speaker, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, has taken over as president in line with the constitution after Nazarbayev resigned yesterday.
