Libyan air force eliminated

The Libyan air force no longer exists as a military unit, a spokesman for the British forces participating in the operation against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi said, RIA Novosti cites Reuters.

The UN Security Council passed a resolution on March 17 involving establishment of a no-fly zone over Libya and the start of a military operation against Gaddafi’s forces.

The operation was codenamed Odyssey Dawn. It includes the UK, France, the USA, Canada, Belgium, Italy, Spain and Denmark. Air strikes against Libyan forces started on March 19. The Libyan authorities say that dozens of people have died in allied bombings. The coalition denies the information.
