SCO counter-terrorism structures approve security measures at Astana summit

The Council of the Regional Counter-Terrorism Structure (CRCS) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held a meeting in Tashkent, at which joint security measures were approved for the coming SCO summit in Astana, the 26th Summer Student Games and the China-Eurasia fair in China, Meng Hungvey, chairman of the session and Chinese Deputy Minister for Public Security said, RIA Novosti reports.


The sides expressed satisfaction with the fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism in 2010-2012. The Chinese side informed the meeting about preparations for counter-terrorism training with the participation of border structures of SCO members.


China, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan signed projects on joint training, entitled Tang-Shan-2. The Executive Council of the CRCS of the SCO will coordinate the activities.


Russian Deputy Director of the FSB (Federal Security Service) Sergey Smirnov added that Russia will not take an active part in the training, but will participate in the concluding stage. Officials from the Russian National Counter-Terrorism Committee will represent the country.


Smirnov reminded the meeting that Russia had held a major counter-terrorism training entitled Saratov-AntiTerror, in which three SCO member-states took part.
