Kazakhstan to bid for 2022 Winter Olympics

Kazakhstan plans to file a bid in 2017 to host the Winter Olympic Games in 2022, Minister of Tourism and Sports Temirkhan Dosmukhanbetov said, Trend reports.

The minister said that the International Olympic Committee had recognized Kazakhstan as a suitable country for the games.

Kazakhstan plans to host the games in Astana and Alma-Ata to avoid the need for additional sports facilities, he told parliament.

The issue was also discussed at a meeting with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and President of the International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge.
