4th day of XV Summer European Youth Olympic Festival kicks off in Baku

The XV Summer European Youth Olympic Festival is being held in Baku.

Gymnasts, swimmers, athletes and judokas will be competing for medals on the fourth day of the festival, games will be also held between the tennis, basketball, volleyball and handball teams.

The national team of Azerbaijan is represented in seven of the abovementioned sports. The judokas will be performing first: Azerbaijan's Ismayil Ganbarli - Russia's Sergey Mastryukov (50kg), Azerbaijan's Shukran Zamanly - Portugal's Miguel Gago (55kg), Azerbaijan's Turan Bayramov - the winner of the meeting Georgia's Kote Kapanadze / Austria's Adam Safer (60kg), Azerbaijan's Gulshan Bashirova - Maria Gonzalez from Spain (44kg), Azerbaijan's Sabina Aliyeva  - Portugal's Raquel Brito (48kg).

The qualifying competitions in women’s artistic gymnastics will be held today. At the competitions, Azerbaijan will be represented by Milana Minakovskaya.

In athletics, the qualifying competitions in triple vault and high jump will be held today. Azerbaijan is represented by Sabrina Zhralova, Lamiya Veliyeva, Ali Abdiyev, Aydin Badalov.

The qualifying competitions and finals will be held in the swimming competitions. Azerbaijan is represented by Aysel Safarova, Aliyar Jahangirbayov, Maryam Sheikhalizadehkhangah and Ramil Valizade.

The Azerbaijani basketball team will play against Croatia. The women's Azerbaijani handball team will meet the women's Czech Republic team, the men's Azerbaijani handball team will play against the men's Serbian team. The Azerbaijani volleyball team will play a match against the Russian team.

Azerbaijan is leading in the medal standings of the festival, being second in the overall medal standings with 16 medals - eight gold, five silver and three bronze.

Russia comes second in medal standings, being first  in the overall medal standings with 22 medals - six gold, six silver and ten bronze. The Italian team has four medals – three gold and one bronze. Italy is third with ten medals.

The XV Summer European Youth Olympic Festival is being held in Baku on July 21-27. The festival will be attended by more than 3,900 athletes from 48 European countries. Athletes will compete in ten kinds of sports - gymnastics, athletics, basketball, cycling, handball, judo, swimming, tennis, volleyball and wrestling. In total, athletes will compete for 135 sets of medals.
